Paul Pfeiffer: Perspective Machine

23/10–13/12

Paul Pfeiffer: Perspective Machine

Almost forty years ago, Guy Debord formulated what he called the "Society of the Spectacle", a world mediated by images, in which one experiences the representation of reality, rather than reality itself. Paul Pfeiffer is part of a new generation of artists examining the mechanics of the contemporary spectacle in an age in which advances in digital technology have reinvented the idea of an “iconic” image. Pfeiffer’s work demonstrates a subtle mastery of these new techniques of image-making, contrasting scale and modes of spectatorship to create tension between what is revealed and what is obscured.

Luc Tuymans: Against the Day

Luc Tuymans: Against the Day

Luc Tuymans is recognised as one of the most significant and influential contemporary painters working today. In the past ten years, he has prompted a critical rethinking of figurative painting, which in turn influenced the development of contemporary art across media. As a Special Guest of the Third Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Luc Tuymans will present his first major exhibition in Russia, “Against the Day”, the fourth exhibition from BAIBAKOV art projects.

Olga Chernysheva: present past

Olga Chernysheva: present past

Olga Chernysheva’s work is distinguished by its attention to the psychological state of her subjects. “There’s always a human figure in the frame,” the artist explains. ”The characters could be confined in a cramped interior, or they could be lost in a vast space, but they’re always on their own.”
